This state was carved out of the old Western State. It has a 180 kilometer from the Republic of Benin. Most noble attractions are the Olumo Rock, Birikisu Sungho shrine, Suna Cultural center, Cele City[Imeko], the resting place of the founder of Celestial chuch, Mount Taborrah Ogere, used most by members of Aladura Church. Other notable attractions are the festivals. They are, Obatala, Egungun, Oro, Agemo, and Yemoja. The Egbas who buit Abeokuta are credited with establishing the first modern government in Nigeria, when they formed the Egbas United government in the 19th century with Abeokuta as capital. The first newspaper in Nigeria was published[Iwe Irhohin] was published in Abeokuta by a missionary named, Rev. Henry Townsend.
