This state formed part of the old Bendel State. The state pride itself as the "heartbeat of the nation" due to its historical significance to the nation. Additionally, many travelers, traveling by road, pass through ancient city of Benin, the state capital. A remarkable part of Benin is the richness of its world renowned arts. The city is known internationally for its superior Bronze, and ivory and wood works. Many historians believed the British were able amalgamate Southern Nigeria after the fall of Benin in 1897. The state is rich in several mineral resources: Petroleum and Gas products Limestones, etc. Factories include, Okpilla Cement factory, Palm Oil indurtry located at Okomu and Nifor, several Timber factories, and Bendel Breweries. The state also produces several agricultural products, rice, Cassava, Yam, Orange, Plantain, bannana, etc. The state has alot of tourist attractions, including the famous sports camp at Afuze.
